East London

On our way to east London, we came out of Liverpool street and ran in to what must have been hundreds of people dressed as Santa.

We saw the Gherkin

And a building with green and red elevators.
The reason we were out, was to get to Hackney Empire but on our way we made a stop at Geffreye Museum. Here we saw the way christmas has been celebrated in middle class houses for over four hundred years. There were christmas carols and we learned that beef was the main dish until turkey took over in the 19th century.

Our next stop was food. We went to an amazing French restaurant called Bouchon Fourchette where we had La Raclette. La Raclette is cheese served with bacon and potatoes, two other meats, lettuce and pickles, all for you to cook up. This was all great fun! We had a good time trying different things and were very full by the end.

We did have some room for dessert though as we noticed Chocolate…

Finally we made it to the Hackney Empire

The theatre itself was quite interesting and we were in for a night of laughs watching the pantomime Mother Goose. From what I understand, an almost SNL type yearly show a christmas tradition in London for kids with and of course touch of adult humour. This year including songs such as Happy and All about the Bass, some political and general celebrity jokes through ought. They had us laughing, standing and dancing all night.

    1. I hear Raclette is a Swiss dish, I’m sure it would be delicious in Germany! I was actually just there, you may recognize a few parts of the next few posts!
